The Double Approach for Parents
Two expert perspectives to help your family raise multilingual children with confidence.
Personalised guidance from a multilingual speech and language therapist and a linguist, working together on your family’s specific situation.
For multilingual families with children aged 3–6.
Are you raising a child with more than one language?
Raising children with more than one language can bring many questions:
Is my child’s language mixing normal?
Are we doing enough, or too much?
Should we be worried, or is this just part of the process?
Which language should we use at home?
How can we support our child without pressure or confusion?
The Double Approach gives you two expert perspectives in the same process, so you do not have to piece together separate opinions on your own.
What is The Double Approach?
The Double Approach is a personalised support pack for multilingual families.
It combines two professional perspectives:
Sofía Zelou’s perspective as a multilingual speech and language therapist, with a focus on speech, language development, and how children communicate across languages.
Dr. Karin Martin’s perspective as a linguist and multilingualism consultant, with a focus on family language choices, multilingual routines, identity, school-home communication, and realistic strategies for everyday life.
Together, we look at your family’s language situation from both the speech-language development side and the multilingual family strategy side.
The goal is not to judge your family’s choices.
The goal is to help you create a safe, realistic, and supportive multilingual environment for your child.
Two experts. One coordinated view of your family’s multilingual situation.
Together, these two perspectives help you understand both your child’s development and your family’s multilingual environment.
Who is this for?
The Double Approach is designed for families who want clear, personalised guidance on their child’s multilingual development and everyday language environment.
This may be for you if:
your child is growing up with two or more languages
your child is between 3 and 6 years old
you are unsure which language choices are best for your family
you have questions about speech, language development, or language mixing
you receive conflicting advice from school, family, or professionals
you want to support multilingualism without pressure, guilt, or confusion
you would like practical guidance tailored to your family’s real routines
Why together works better
Most families end up piecing together advice from two separate specialists, at two separate times. The Double Approach gives you both, in the same room, at the same time.
How it works
Family Situation & Needs Consultation (1 hour)
You tell us about your family's language situation, your concerns, your goals, and how your child is responding. We listen, ask the right follow-up questions, and share our first impressions before the session ends.
Personalised Multilingual Support Plan (1 hour)
We come back with a practical, tailored plan: concrete guidelines, real examples, and next steps for your family. You'll receive the written plan afterward, so you can revisit it anytime.
Follow-up (1 hour, if needed)
A few weeks later, we check in on how the plan is working and adjust it together.
Meet the experts

Karin's career has taken her across diverse cultural settings, where she's delivered impactful workshops, presentations, and training sessions on multilingualism and intercultural communication. Sofía Zelou
Multilingual neuro-speech & language therapist
Sofía is a multilingual neuro-speech and language therapist based in Barcelona. She works with families worldwide and practices in Spanish, English, Catalan, Greek and Italian, among other languages. She has created specific workshops for both schools and families who need guidance on their multilingual journey.
That's one of the reasons she also created personalised consulting services for parents who need to be guided by a professional in the world of languages - online or face-to-face. Bilingual, multilingual, or even monolingual parents tend to have many concerns about their children's development: their language development, their speech, and how to help them at home when they use many languages and don't know which one to start with.
Sofía's professional experience over the years has given her all the tools parents need - not only for bilingual or multilingual families, but for any parent who needs functional, individualised guidelines for their children's future.
Sofía also works with schools to accelerate learning in the fastest and most functional way. She is well known in international schools in Barcelona, where she has collaborated over the years and assisted many families, their children, and the teachers themselves.
